We work with solid oak, brushed stainless steel, solid brass, and linen and wool flag halyard and have has established a close-to-home production chain, primarily based in Denmark.
This approach nurtures a more mindful method of furniture making, rooted in quality craftsmanship and a made-to-order approach — combining traditional and innovative production techniques, and ensuring strong collaboration throughout the process.
For Thorup, it is essential that the items we produce do not need frequent replacement, but instead become more cherished over time, enabling us to care for and maintain them for long-term use.
Additionally our Noel Chair series is certified by the EU Ecolabel, granted to products that meet rigorous environmental criteria across their entire life cycle — from material sourcing to production that prioritises repairability and recyclability.

Solid Oak
At Thorup Copenhagen, we work with FSC® certified wood. Oak is a natural material cherished for its durability, strength, and timeless beauty. When purchasing a table crafted from oak, it's essential to understand that natural attributes such as knots, growth marks, and color variations contribute to its distinctive appearance.
Expect slight differences in color and texture between individual pieces of furniture. These variations add to the charm and uniqueness of each piece, making it truly one-of-a-kind.

To clean, use a soft cloth dampened with clean water. Refrain from using any cleaners containing chemicals. We recommend giving the wood edges some extra care to prevent dryness and cracking in winter. If your sleek surface gets a little scratched, no worries – a light sanding and a touch oil will have it looking good as new.
To maintain a sleek appearance, make sure to oil both the top and bottom of the table. Embrace the nuances – natural materials come with character and will develop a unique patina over time.

As oak furniture ages, it may develop small cracks, knots, or imperfections, adding to its charm. Embrace these natural features as part of the wood's character rather than considering them flaws. -
- Begin by cleaning the Mio table using a clean cloth dampened with warm water.
- Once the material is dry, apply oil onto a clean, soft cloth, or sponge—avoid pouring the oil directly onto the wood.
- Rub the oil into the wood, following the direction of the grain, covering the entire surface of the furniture piece.
- Allow the oil to soak for approximately 20 minutes, then remove any excess oil with a soft, clean, dry cloth.
- Buff the surface with a clean, soft cloth until a consistent look across the entire surface is achieved, then let it dry.

Brass
Patrone lighting is meticulously crafted from solid brass, combining enduring beauty with practical advantages in lighting design. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, brass's exceptional conductivity for both heat and electricity makes it an ideal choice for various electrical components in lighting fixtures.
Each fixture undergoes a fusion of technological advancements and traditional methods, ensuring precision and uniqueness. Due to individualized surface treatment, slight variations are to be expected, imparting distinctiveness to each piece.

Use a soft, dry cloth without loose fabric fibres. Do not use polishing creams and/or cloths, chemical or abrasive cleaners and avoid using water.For solid brass:
To keep the bright finish of the solid brass, we recommend using our Brass Care Kit (only for the untreated brass surface).To remove spots and oxidization, firmly brush the surface with the pad included in the brass care kit.

Steel
At Thorup Copenhagen, the Noel Chair Series rests on a tubular base of high-strength steel. The frame is welded and designed to be slim and minimal in expression. It gives lasting stability for everyday use in homes as well as hospitality spaces. Steel is durable, needs very little maintenance, and can be fully recycled at the end of its life.
The steel is not treated with, nor does it contain, disinfectant biocides.

Clean the surface with mild soap and a soft cloth wrung out in hot water, then dry with a clean cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners and chlorine-based products, as they may cause corrosion.
With simple, regular care, the frame will keep its clean lines and finish for years to come.

Brushed Stainless Steel

Flag Halyard
Flag halyard is a tightly braided cord, traditionally used to hoist flags. At Thorup Copenhagen, it is wrapped by hand around steel frames on both the Noel Chair Series and the Anto Room Dividers.
On Noel, a single continuous length forms a seat that is strong, flexible and comfortable. On Anto, the flag halyard creates a light, textured surface that divides a room while letting light and air pass through.
Because the flag halyard is handwrought, slight variations are to be expected. Over time, it settles and develops a subtle patina, giving each piece its own character.

For spills or stains, gently blot the surface with a soft, damp cloth to protect the fibres. Do not rub, as this may damage them. For routine care, use a gentle vacuum to maintain the material's appearance.

Linen comes from the flax plant and is one of the strongest and most durable natural fibres. The linen flag halyard is available in Nature and Black.

Wool Flag HalyardExclusively available for Thorup, the wool flag halyard is made from pure, undyed wool from free-roaming sheep on the Faroe Islands.
Faroese wool is valued for its longevity and natural resilience. The wool is left in its natural hues: Brown, Dark Grey and Fair Grey. It is also based on the idea of repurposing, putting a local resource to use and reducing material waste.

Leather
The Noel seat pads combine leather and linen into a soft, naturally strong cushion. The pad makes sitting even more comfortable and protects the flag halyard underneath. The front is aniline or semi-aniline leather, and the back is linen in Nature or Black.
Leather is a living material. Natural marks, variations in grain and differences in colour are part of its character. Over time it softens and develops a rich patina, becoming more personal with use.

Dust the leather regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Blot spills right away with a clean, dry cloth, and do not rub. Avoid direct sunlight and placing the pad close to radiators, as this can dry out the leather and change its colour. Do not use household cleaners or solvents.

Aniline leather is dyed through without a surface coating, so it keeps its natural look and soft feel. It is also more sensitive to light, liquids and wear, and its patina develops more visibly.
Semi-aniline leather has a thin protective layer that makes it a little more resistant to everyday use while keeping a natural expression.
